I taught writing for ages, and I did freelance writing during most of that time. In 2022, I switched from teaching and writing to doing just writing.

Direct Marketing Emails

I spend a lot of my time writing emails about technologies and solutions. It’s interesting stuff—and the emails themselves can be fun to put together—but it’s pretty different from the way I talked about emails in technical and professional writing classes.

Engagement Programs or Drip Emails

Engagement campaigns are a ton of fun to work on. They offer a chance to really engage with audiences and build a relationship with them. I approach them like building a course syllabus, working from concept to concept with opportunities for interactivity along the way, until reaching a concluding point and substantial call to action.

Customer Story

A customer story highlights a specific customer application of a product, service, or solution. They are used to demonstrate value in a way that a product description or simple testimonial cannot. They are not written to make an immediate, specific sale, so they serve as excellent content supporting content for engagement campaigns, product pages, and other materials.

Writing for Video

I write scripts, interstitial cards, and other verbal content for videos. These products range from very short (interstitial cards with 2-3 words to summarize an entire technology or solution) to mid-length (2-3 minute videos explaining solutions and services). I work closely with video teams to ensure that language and a/v components work together to create something beyond the sum of its parts.
